Who We Are

In 2020, the pandemic forced us to make some big decisions.  Our Pumpkin Patch was both, a non-essential business and a mass gathering and, therefore, was prohibited.  Our goats were our main attraction.  Without the Pumpkin Patch, we could not afford to keep them.  We either had to sell the herd or use them to start a new business.

My decision was to sell them all and wait it out.   My daughter and son-in-law had a different idea.  "Why don't we start renting them out for weed control?"

We decided to give it a try.  I got us some work at a Rio Rancho park, Claire and Nick loaded the goats, and off we went.  Soon after we started posting what we were doing on social media, the phone started ringing.

After the goats had cleared out a few backyards, our local forest manager saw our social media posts and contacted me about utilizing the goats in our local forest to reduce fire risk and clear out invasive vegetation to make room for native plants.

We had the goats do a few test plots to judge their effectiveness on the targeted vegetation.  At that time the herd 35 goats, and now, we have over 300 goats and sheep!

Galloping Goat Grazing is now the premier choice for sustainable, eco-friendly vegetation management in the state of New Mexico

What We Do

Our line of work is generally referred to as "Targeted Goat/Sheep Grazing."  In simple terms, that just means we utilize goats and sheep to target the removal or management of specific vegetation.

The bulk of the work we do is fire fuels and invasive vegetation management in our local Bosque.  We work with non-profit, tribal, city, county, and state agencies to reduce the risk of devastating and dangerous forest fires in our wildland/urban interfaces.

We refer to that work as the goat's "day job".  During the nights, weekends, and holidays, our happy herd can be found in backyards all across the metro area where they are removing nuisance weeds like Kochia and Tumbleweeds.

The herd doesn’t stop there, our herd manages weeds for little leagues, churches, parks, retirement facilities, solar farms, and much, much more.

Then, in the fall, you can find our goats and sheep entertaining and educating thousands of families at Galloping Goat Pumpkin Patch
